I just put my thumb over both b and a and then i can press both at once

Yea, JHZER mentioned this in his description box. Quote: “I play with claw grip: index finger for circle and thumb for the rest.”

+Luz Drummond M1k3 rules play like that too I believe

I quickly flick A into B, which is quicker than tapping, but not as fast as hitting both at the same time. I always forget to use a second jump to get more air faster, which is something I really need to get into my game if I want to go much further than Rising Star.

+nekroneko Yeah that could work I geuss but how do you push the button into 4he otherone

    • nekroneko
      August 12, 2016 at 4:15 pm

+Luz Drummond It’s just a tech I picked up from Tekken years ago. You would just slide your thumb rapidly from one button to the other with virtually no time gap in between. I’m considering moving the drift button to the same place as I have air roll meaning it won’t be on the face buttons and on the bumper instead.

    I play with Keyboard & Mouse >.<

I adjusted my controls for KB+M. Shift is awkward and distracts my movement key fingers. My air roll and power slide are on the thumb mouse button. Thus I’ve got all my movement keys on the KB, and all my car actions on the mouse. (Well, except for space bar for ball cam and tab for scoreboard, those are kinda oddballs) It took some time to adjust. I did it about 500 hours into the game, but I’m glad I did.

I have my boost on X since I started using controller, but the problem I get is that I fail my second jump very often. Like, I want to double jump to reach a high ball but at the same time I am pulling my joystick down to tilt my car up in the air, and I do a backflip which completely wrecks my momentum. If anyone has the same problem and found a way to try and fix it, pls let me know. But I guess there’s just no way around that except trying to play a little bit slower. I also fail at fast kickoffs a lot using boost on X. Maybe that’s just my problem because I need to practice more idk…

+Beastin’ Ethan right, but what your doing doesn’t offer an advantage over a “traditional” aerial. You are slowing down before you launch, then double jumping, and not boosting until after your second jump. That’s a really slow way to get up. Meanwhile, I also play at C1, and assuming I didn’t wiff, I’m at the ball before you’ve touched your boost.

There are plenty of cases where slowing down, and using a double jump like you describe is a valid and useful technique, it’s just the total opposite of the point of this video and what I described.

+SnipaEagleEye The brake is for control over speed, which is what you need to hit aerials or awkward touches that throw the other team off and prevent set-up pass plays. While on the other half going for a shot/pass, you need the momentum for power. It’s whatever works at the moment. What you’re referring to is the “fast aerial” that pro players master. It’s not so much traditional as it is useful, it’s just a matter of what you are and aren’t mechanically ready for.

The problem is that this kind of aerial is way too slow at any level above rising star. I am currently almost at shooting star, wanting to get to champion this season, but I don’t seem to be good enough yet (new matchmaking combined with rank reset makes it even harder when I play solo). I almost think that having boost on X leads to loosing control over the A button, which causes me to jump when I shoudn’t. But as I said, I might just be to fast and reckless with my playstyle, which is probably what I need to overcome because I’m loosing control over the basics of the game, by trying advanced stuff I am not ready for yet.

I am thinking of moving boost to one of the bumpers, but the left one doesn’t work as good anymore (right one is already occupied) so I might get fucked up doing that. Maybe I’ll just need a new controller. Q_Q

+Kyuhn If your LB doesn’t work i’ve heard of using L3 for powerslide and air roll and boost on RB, but that doesn’t sound great to me. I’m still improving my mechanical skill, but maybe setting a step by step process in your head as i’ve done with normal aerials would with fast aerials. Practice until you memorize it, then start trying it in-game. Of course if you mess it up in-game you have to deal with the toxicity of many players, but I just ignore it

I’ve been using the steam controller for a month now. I have the 2 stage trigger setup so 1st stage is accelerate and 2nd stage is boost. My power slide and air movement is on the left grip. Work in progress, but really liking it so far. Anyone else using steam controller?

Watch SirTimbers tutorial for Fast aerials.

    • Cathal
      August 11, 2016 at 1:46 pm

I think he means if you boost forward then double jump with no direction youll jump straight up/slightly forward due to your momentum, and can get in the air pretty quickly

    • Adam R
      August 11, 2016 at 3:09 pm

it is when you do a one jump pull the car up and boost then do another jump with no direction. This gets you up in the air very fast for mid to high aerial hits. It is a more advanced thing, because it is fairly hard to get right and newer people will find themselves back flipping a lot.

I think i’m one of very few who has boost as LB/L1 and air roll (handbrake) at X/SQUARE.

    • Relative Doughnut
      August 11, 2016 at 2:47 pm

Ye that’s what I think. A lot of pros seem to have air roll on the other bumper but I see no reason to.

I have boost on RB, and air roll/drift on LB

    • Relative Doughnut
      August 11, 2016 at 3:39 pm

Yeah a lot of people like to have boost and air roll on each bumper. I just can’t see an advantage to having it that way.

    • Albie Ewins
      August 11, 2016 at 10:07 pm

+Relative Doughnut if you hold the controller with your index fingers on bumpers and middles on triggers you can boost, accelerate, brake and drift/air roll without moving, it leaves your thumb just worrying about jumping and switching to and from ball cam.

I have my powerslide and air roll on L1 and boost on R1, it works a lot better for me because I dont have to move my thumb for anything but jumping and moving my camera

I didn’t get why he has to change his control settings for doing the fast double jump. Easy to learn with boost on circle.

You can start by not boosting at all and double jumping, go on to boost first later.
